Full Description: The accounts concerning the conversion of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari might not be considered to be of much historical value, nevertheless they may interest the student of the history of religion as an example of the methodology followed by some of the earlier traditionists of Islam.
The report that Abu Dharr was the fifth, or even the fourth convert to Islam is, as Noldeke maintains, an invention of the faction of ‘Ali, who set great store by early conversion and service under Mohammad. Nevertheless, we believe that he was an early convert because he was one of the Supporters of the Prophet.
The new feature in this book is the collection in abridged form of all the hadith ascribed to Abu Dharr al-Ghifari and of al the accounts concerning him. The student of religion may welcome this as a critical apparatus.
